"The
main premise is contained in the very title Nedozvani (Senseless)
in the sense in which the people understand it: people who have
lost the main guidelines in life and their every attempt to find
their way ends by them becoming even more lost."
Momcilo Nastasijevic
(Excerpts from the interview with Momcilo Nastasijevic by writer
Desimir Blagojevic, on the day of the premiere at the Academic
Theatre, "Pravda", June 20th, 1931)
And, like Nastasijevic stands alone with his poetry and undeniable
originality, so does his drama "Senseless" stand alone
and original with its complex values - unusual language, depth
of metaphor about our civic society ("tragic because they
are incapable of being tragic"), with its dramatic characters
and belonging to the modern movement with its irrationalism,
against all the shallow psychobabble.
"Senseless" is undoubtedly our best play between the
two wars, with an urban topic, in the Serbian drama heritage.
