Child
prodigy on the drums
The young Austrian musician Martin Grubinger, born in Salzburg in
1983, was inspired with the love of percussion instruments offering
such a great range of possibilites, already as a small child. "I
have been playing percussion all my life", says multipercussionist
Grubinger, who, when still very young, received his first musical
formation by his father, percussionist himself and assistant professor
at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Aged only 15 he was admitted to the
Bruckner Conservatory Linz, and has since then been a student of
Professor Leonhard Schmidinger. After having been awarded first prize
by the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe and in the XXIV International
Masterplayers Competition Lugano, Martin Grubinger reached the finale
of the "Eurovision Competition for Young Musicians" of
the European broadcasting corporations EBU in the summer of 2000.
The final concert with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, helped
the 17 year old Grubinger on the road to international success.
He is now the first percussionist ever that was nominated for the
prestigious "Credit Suisse Group Artists Award".
