Zulya Kamalova

Zulya is a singer who combines Tartarian music, which she carries genetically, with the new Australian sound. The Australian-Russian band will be the hit of this year's festival season in Europe.

Award-winning Zulya Kamalova, s native of Volga River region of Central Russia, is the leading proponent of Tatar music in Australia, as well as one of the most versatile and accomplished vocalists on the world music scene today.

With the help of extremely diverse company of musicians she has been able to give a truly global twist to the traditional songs of her ancestors. Her music reflects not only the cultural wealth of her background, but also an ongoing fascination with a diversity of unusual instruments and instrumentation (kora, oud, bouzouki, litungu, jaw harp, kalimba, tuba, ghatam, violin, accordion, flugal horn and others). The unorthodox and sometimes adventurouse arrangments are delicately sparse and above all is Zulya's achingly beautiful voice - pure and powerfully commanding in delivery. Zulya's music and performance continues to dazzle audience with her multi-cultural proficiency and passion for music and song.

Zulya released three albums (Journey of Voice, 1997, Aloukie, 1999 and Elusive, 2003) and was awareded with several World Music Awards.
