Zulya is a singer who combines Tartarian
music, which she carries genetically, with the new Australian
sound. The Australian-Russian band will be the hit of this
year's festival season in Europe.
Award-winning Zulya Kamalova, s native of Volga River region
of Central Russia, is the leading proponent of Tatar music
in Australia, as well as one of the most versatile and accomplished
vocalists on the world music scene today.
With the help of extremely diverse company of musicians she
has been able to give a truly global twist to the traditional
songs of her ancestors. Her music reflects not only the cultural
wealth of her background, but also an ongoing fascination with
a diversity of unusual instruments and instrumentation (kora,
oud, bouzouki, litungu, jaw harp, kalimba, tuba, ghatam, violin,
accordion, flugal horn and others). The unorthodox and sometimes
adventurouse arrangments are delicately sparse and above all
is Zulya's achingly beautiful voice - pure and powerfully commanding
in delivery. Zulya's music and performance continues to dazzle
audience with her multi-cultural proficiency and passion for
music and song.
Zulya released three albums (Journey
of Voice, 1997, Aloukie,
1999 and Elusive, 2003) and was awareded with several World
