A group of enthusiasts build a huge metal
figure, into which they invested their soul. Max Metallic,
a new born, is discovering himself, his consciousness and the
world around him. He is so enthusiatic that his creators have
difficulty holding him in check. When they try to teach him “Good
manners”, they notice that along with the soul, Max also
obtaines feelings which he, as a machine, cannot control and
which cause a short circuit in his system. Fire consumes the
figure and he falls burning, while his soul flies into the
sky.
The Pinnocio puppet theater in Zemun was founded as the Travelling
Theater Pinnocio in 1972. It acquired the status of a permanent
Belgrade theater in 1978, and has since remaind the only puppet
theater in Belgrade. Apart from small theatre forms, the Pinnocio
has also been engaging since 1978 in bigger ensemble shows,
and a permanent actors corps has been established. Zivomir
Jokovic, who has directed the thater since its foundation,
was replaced in 1998 by playwright Igor Bojovic.
The basic repertoire consists of plays whose motives have
been found in standard fairly tales, myths, legends and epic
poetry, but also contemporary drama. Various puppet techniques
and forms are used, often in combination with shadow theater
or actors’ play. The theater has over 30 shows in its
repertoire, performed every day at its parent stage or at numerous
guest appearances. The Pinnocio Theatre gives five opening
nights and performs around 250 shows each year.
