Hit Musical Gypsies Are Found near Heaven to Open the 33rd Belgrade Summer Festival – BELEF on 20 June at Sava Centre!
The Belgrade Summer Festival – BELEF will be held for the 33rd time from 20 June to 17 September 2026. The festival opening is planned for Saturday, 20 June 2026, at 8 p.m. at Sava Centre, when the famous musical of the Terazije Theatre, Gypsies Are Found near Heaven, will be performed.
This lavish production has been among the most sought-after on the Serbian theatre scene for 22 years and is soon marking its 400th show. As part of BELEF, it will feature the choir, ballet, and orchestra of the Terazije Theatre on the Sava Centre stage, along with the following cast: Ivan Bosiljčić, Olivera Bacić, Kristina Savić, Milan Tubić, Nikola Bulatović, Duško Radović, Miroljub Turajlija, Milan Milosavljević, Vladan Savić, Aleksandar Dunić, Petar Đurđević, Predrag Miletić, Jelena Arsić, Milica Burazer, Marija Krulj, Ana Korać, Nataša Balog, Mitra Mladenović, Ksenija Repić, Minja Petrović, and many others.
The spectacular show, directed by Vladimir Lazić, premiered on 17 April 2004 and has had more than 200,000 spectators to date, which is a highly significant figure. It is always in high demand, and numerous theatre lovers now have the opportunity to book their tickets in advance, via the tickets.rs website and at Ticket Vision outlets.
The play was adapted by Ivana Dimić, the conductor is Milan Nedeljković, the choreographer is Krunoslav Simić, the set designer is Geroslav Zarić, and the costume designer is Snezana Šimić.
Adapted from Maxim Gorky’s short story, this musical tells the story of the fatal love between Loiko Zobar and Rada. The Roma in this story embody the spirit of romantic legends, and the author encounters them while wandering across the endless expanses of his homeland. The protagonists are unburdened by social dogmas and easily cross the boundaries of social behaviour since they do not rely on material possessions. The musical features traditional Russian Roma music and breathtaking choreography.
The thirty-third Belgrade Summer Festival is organized by the Belgrade Festivals Centre (CEBEF).
