Belgrade Summer Festival – BELEF
The Belgrade Summer Festival (BELEF) is an international arts festival featuring distinctive programmes in the fields of music, theatre, dance, and visual arts. Founded in 1991, the festival has established itself as one of Belgrade’s most significant cultural events.
BELEF’s artistic vision explores the relationship between the local and the global, as well as between traditional and contemporary forms of artistic expression, embracing modern aesthetics and interactive formats. Rather than favouring either “urban elitism” or “traditional populism,” the festival offers a unique celebratory meeting point between the Serbian cultural scene and the wider world.
Over the years, the festival has presented exclusive and premiere performances by leading Serbian and international artists, including the Glinka Choir of Saint Petersburg, Eric Burdon, Laurie Anderson, Roxy Music, Nikita Mikhalkov, Dušan Makavejev, Egon Savin, Kokan Mladenović, Nikita Milivojević, Matthew Barney, Bill Viola, Black Le Rat, and Mark Jenkins, among many others, continually raising the artistic standards for future editions of the festival.
